Hip Opening Yoga Sequence - 40 Minutes

Yoga Upload with Maris Aylward - This is a hip opening yoga sequence for both intermediate and beginner students. There are many benefits from this practice, especially if you have been feeling some tightness or tension in the hip area or if you have been sitting for long periods of time. We "open the hips" by focusing on our lower body - stretching the hip flexors, quadriceps, inner and outer thighs, hamstrings, glutes, lower back, IT band, and more. There are also twists, mild backbends, and other poses to balance the practice. This yoga class can be used as a post-workout stretch routine as well.

We do mostly floor and seated poses (no standing sequence except for forward fold). The pace is slow and allows you to breathe and settle into the poses. Focus on truly being in the body and feeling the subtle energy and sensations in the postures.

If your knees are sensitive, make sure you have a towel or blanket to cushion the knees. Also, yoga props such as a block or blanket may be useful in some poses if you choose to use them. Modifications are offered for some of the poses so you can work at the intensity that is safe for you. A small screen will appear on the right to show you alternatives for the pose or how to use the props.

The class is approximately 40 minutes, with a few minutes of Savasana music included at the end to help you relax. If you prefer my Guided 6-Minute Savasana video, click below:

Not being motivated can really put a damper on weight loss. It is common to not have the urge or the knowledge. Using these tips you can get on your way to a fitness workout that works for you.

Using music in a workout routine is a great way to make it fun. You will have sustained energy and enthusiasm by listening to a series of pulsating, rhythmic tunes. People seem wired to get up and move when they hear music, and taking advantage of that for weight loss purposes is a no-brainer. By listening to music you love, you will not be focused on the workout but on the fun, infectious music.

Look for others in your circle of friends or in your family who you can pair up with to achieve mutual weight loss goals. Chart your progress together and enjoy each other's support. It can also make it seem like you are doing less when you talk about things. You can focus on the conversation instead of focusing on how hard you are working out which will make exercising more fun and encourage you to stick with it.

Exercise-themed video games can be a terrific way to get a workout. The advantage of this method is that when you are playing a workout video game, it is easy to get consumed in the game itself and not even realize that you are actually exercising. If you aren't constantly paying attention to your body, you will be able to exercise longer since you will have more stamina.

If you choose workout gear that looks good on you, it's a big motivator to get out there and exercise. They are a blast to wear, and there are so many styles from which you can choose. When putting together an exercise outfit, get creative. The better you feel in your exercise clothes, the more motivated you will be to go out and exercise.

Switch the order of your routines or do something entirely differently to avoid becoming bored. Keeping your workouts fresh is the key to staving off boredom and maintaining your interest. It is important to stay motivated. If you lose interest in exercise and stop, you are going to lose your momentum. That will make it hard to get started again.

Indulging yourself for successfully reaching your goal is perfectly acceptable. Reward yourself at each step along the way to help you reach your ultimate fitness goal. You can treat yourself to a small portion of your favorite dessert, or perhaps buy a new exercise outfit that you have always wanted.

You do not need to view exercise as a laborious, sweaty chore. Working out can be fun if you discover what exciting elements you want to add to your exercise routine. Consider the following information to make your routine have more enjoyment.
